Ah Hee-Lan

Abstract
Existing studies about long-term care facilities have limitations in that they examined caregivers or guardians of elderly residents without considering the elderly residents with good cognitive function or the diversity of physical and mental functional status of the elderly residents. Therefore, this study attended to the voices of guardians of the elderly residents with diverse physical and mental functional statuses regarding what aspects of long-term care facilities need to be remedied. The study participants were selected through reflecting the age, gender, disease, long-term care grade, and length of admission to the facility, and 13 family members whose parents or grandparents were admitted to long-term care facilities. A qualitative study was conducted using in-depth interviews. After the interview materials had been sorted out under the theme of wants for long-term care facility services, there were 4 main themes. The results of the study showed that the guardians wanted the following items be supplemented; the raise of standards in placing the caregivers, the observance of the full-time duty of the facility manager, the reduction of the load of paperwork for caregivers, guardian conferences. Based on the results, detailed suggestions that can be implemented in the long-term care facilities were made to fulfill the wants of guardians.
